スミノモニカ Monica Sumino
主に絵と絵本の制作を行っています。
制作の過程で生まれた言葉から、詩や物語を書くこともあります。
世界各地のフェアリーテールやフォークアート、
祝祭のあとの余韻や、キャンドルの明かりのようなものに心を惹かれます。
物語が静かに立ち上がる、その気配に惹かれています。
作品をつくることは、わたしにとって
ひみつの祝杯をあげるような行為です。
心が、チョコレートを口にしたときのように
やわらぐ、その感覚をたよりに制作しています。
絵の中には、しばしば動物たちが登場します。
I mainly work with illustration, often exploring the form of picture books.
Along the way, I also write poetry and stories, drawn from words that emerge during the process.
I am inspired by fairy tales and folk art from around the world,
by the quiet after a celebration, and by gentle light, like that of a candle.
I am drawn to moments when a story quietly comes into being.
Making art, for me, is like raising a secret toast.
I work while trusting the softened feeling
that comes, like tasting a piece of chocolate.
Animals often appear in my drawings.
